New Delhi, January 3 (IANS). Union Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnav visited New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday to inspect India’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train.
During this, the Minister reviewed the sleeper coach in detail and examined the seating and berthing arrangements, modern interior, safety features and passenger convenience system.
He interacted with railway officials and assessed the technical readiness of the train, noting that it is fully ready for operation.
Special attention has been paid to passenger safety, comfort and onboard amenities.
Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is equipped with advanced features like automatic doors, armor safety system, improved fire safety system, disinfectant technology and CCTV surveillance in all coaches.
The toilet design has also been improved to ensure better hygiene and prevent splashing water. This reflects Indian Railways’ efforts to ensure cleanliness and comfortable passenger travel.
This train will run between Guwahati in Assam and Howrah in West Bengal. All trials, testing and certification processes have been completed successfully. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the first Vande Bharat sleeper train on this route in January.
This 16-coach train includes 11 three-tier coaches, four two-tier coaches and one first-class coach, whose total capacity is approximately 823 passengers.
It has been designed to deliver a smooth and comfortable journey with an advanced suspension system, ergonomic interiors and high sanitation standards.
During the journey, passengers will also get food as per the area. Trains originating from Guwahati will serve authentic Assamese food, while trains originating from Kolkata will serve traditional Bengali dishes, which will add a cultural touch to the travel experience.
With a design speed of up to 180 kmph, the semi-high-speed Vande Bharat Sleeper train combines fast travel with modern amenities, showcasing Indian Railways’ focus on innovation and passenger-centric service.
