New Delhi, July 15 (IANS). Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched the beta version of its new ticket booking website. The Railway Ministry said on Wednesday that this is the first major change of the website in the last two decades.
The new website is currently available in beta version. Passengers can use it and give their suggestions. The final version will be released in the next few weeks.
According to the Railway Ministry, the beta version of the new website has been made available on the existing IRCTC website. For this, a special link has been given on the homepage, through which passengers can access the new website.
This initiative is aimed at modernizing the digital ticketing system of Railways and improving the ticket booking experience for passengers.
The Ministry said that the suggestions of the students of Malaviya National Institute of Technology have played an important role in preparing the new design of the website.
During the interaction with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, students had given suggestions to make the website more user-friendly. Many of these suggestions have been incorporated into the new website.
The IRCTC website was first launched in the year 2002. Currently, an average of 14.5 lakh tickets are booked daily through this platform.
The new website offers a clean interface, easy navigation and a simple ticket booking process.
Many such changes have been made in the new website which will make ticket booking easier than before. Unnecessary captchas, pop-ups, flashing graphics and other obstructive elements have been removed.
Additionally, passengers will now be able to see seat availability across all classes simultaneously, allowing them to easily compare different options.
According to the Railway Ministry, the number of checkout steps in the ticket booking process has been reduced. Also, availability of information about already saved passengers will provide convenience to passengers booking tickets repeatedly.
The ministry said that the purpose of launching the beta version is to get feedback from passengers. Further improvements will be made to the website based on suggestions from users.
The new website will also be linked to the Railways’ new passenger reservation system, which is being upgraded in parallel.
According to the Railway Ministry, the full version of the advanced reservation system and the new IRCTC website is likely to be launched in the next few weeks.
