New Delhi, June 10 (IANS). Taking forward the Self-reliant India and ‘Make in India’ campaign, the Ministry of Defense has taken an important step to strengthen the capabilities of the Indian Navy. The Defense Ministry has signed a contract worth Rs 449 crore with Bengaluru-based company Accord Software and Systems Private Limited (ASSPL) for the procurement of 20 Enhanced Capability Global Navigation Satellite System (ECGNSS) jammers. At least 75 percent indigenous material will be used in this project.
According to an official statement from the Defense Ministry, the contract was signed in the national capital on June 10, 2026, in the presence of Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. The procurement is being done under the ‘BUY (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured)’ category, which aims to promote defense systems developed and manufactured in the country.
The statement said that this state-of-the-art system is capable of weakening the signal receiving and tracking capability of the enemy’s Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver. Apart from this, it can also confuse the enemy by using advanced techniques like signal spoofing and deceptive jamming.
In simple words, this system will help in increasing the security of naval ships by affecting the navigation and targeting systems of the enemy.
The Defense Ministry says that the deployment of these jammer systems will help Indian Navy warships operate safely and effectively in multi-threat environments. Electronic warfare capability is considered extremely important in modern maritime warfare and this system is a major step in that direction.
This contract will not only strengthen India’s maritime security system, but will also give new impetus to the development of indigenous technology in the defense sector. The government believes that such projects will play an important role in making the country self-reliant in defense equipment and reducing foreign dependence.
According to the Defense Ministry, this agreement is an important milestone towards indigenization of advanced military technologies and strengthening the defense capabilities of the country. It will also further strengthen India’s ‘Self-reliant India’ and ‘Make in India’ vision.
