A new security feature is now available for Android smartphone users that detects fake calls and warns you before you even answer. Google says this feature will help reduce problems related to AI voice cloning scams and call spoofing attacks. Google’s fake call detection feature has started rolling out to Android users around the world and will be available in the “Phone by Google” app. This new security feature will act as an additional layer of security.
**Fake call detection is available on these Android phones**
In a blog post, Google announced that it has started rolling out a new fake call detection feature globally for devices running Android 12 and above. Google said that the fake call detection feature is turned on by default in the “Phone by Google” app, so it automatically detects fraudulent calls. The feature also uses Rich Communication Services (RCS) for end-to-end encryption, enhancing user privacy and security.
If an Android phone detects a potentially fake call, the recipient’s handset will ping the caller’s phone to confirm the legitimacy of the call. If the user on the other end confirms, “I’m not on a call right now,” the “Phone by Google” app will alert the recipient’s phone. This will advise them to immediately disconnect the call, thereby saving users from becoming victims of fake calls and spoofing attacks. Citing Interpol’s March 2026 *Global Financial Fraud Threat Assessment* report, Google said that fraud is a leading cause of financial losses of more than $400 billion (approximately ₹38,28,300 crore) worldwide.
