New Delhi, March 27 (IANS). Proposals for purchasing military equipment worth about Rs 2.38 lakh crore have been approved on Friday in the Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) meeting chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.
According to the Defense Ministry, many important systems have been approved for the Indian Army, which include Air Defense Tracked System, Armor Piercing Tank Ammunition, High Capacity Radio Relay, Dhanush Gun System and Runway Independent Aerial Surveillance System.
The Air Defense Tracked System will provide the Army with real-time air defense and surveillance capabilities, while the high capacity radio relay will ensure better and reliable communications.
The Dhanush Gun System will increase the strength of artillery, which will enable the Army to aim more accurately and effectively at longer ranges. At the same time, aerial surveillance system will strengthen the surveillance capability and the firepower of tank ammunition will also increase.
Medium transport aircraft, S-400 long range air defense system, remotely piloted strike aircraft and Su-30 engine upgrade have been approved for the Indian Air Force.
The medium transport aircraft will replace the old AN-32 and IL-76 aircraft and will meet the strategic and operational needs of the army. The S-400 system will protect vital areas from enemy long-range air attacks.
Remotely piloted strike aircraft will help the Air Force in both attack and surveillance, while the upgrade of Su-30 engines will increase the lifespan and capability of the aircraft.
Procurement of Heavy Duty Air Cushion Vehicles (ACVs) for the Indian Coast Guard has been approved. They will be used for patrolling, surveillance, search and rescue operations and logistics support in coastal areas.
According to the Defense Ministry, DAC has so far approved 55 proposals in the financial year 2025-26, the total value of which is Rs 6.73 lakh crore.
Apart from this, contracts on defense deals worth Rs 2.28 lakh crore have also been signed for 503 proposals in the same financial year, which is the largest figure till date.
This step of the government is being considered as a big effort towards strengthening the defense capability of the country and equipping it with modern technology.
