New Delhi, April 27 (IANS). The central government is considering introducing a credit support scheme of Rs 5,000 crore for Indian airlines, which have been affected due to tensions in the Middle East. This is expected to provide great relief to the country’s aviation sector. This information was given in a report.

The proposed scheme is likely to be implemented under the Emergency Credit Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS), with the government working on an extended package of around Rs 2.5 lakh crore to support various sectors affected by the Middle East tension, reports NDTV Profit.

Airlines may be allowed to take credit with government support through ECLGS, with a credit limit of around Rs 1,000 crore per airline, the report quoted sources as saying.

This scheme is expected to run for five years, which can also be extended further, and the government can give guarantee of up to 90 percent on the loans given under it.

Sources further said that the proposed airline relief plan is part of the broader crisis support framework being prepared by the government to mitigate the economic impact of global uncertainties.

The move comes at a time when rising geopolitical tensions, including the US-Iran conflict, continue to put pressure on key sectors like aviation, which remains vulnerable to fuel price fluctuations and global disruptions.

Earlier this month, the Civil Aviation Ministry announced the second phase of DGCA-approved Flying Training Organization (FTO) rankings for April 2026, reflecting an overall improvement in training standards, with one institute joining the top ‘A’ category.

Developed under the guidance of Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, the ranking framework aims to enhance transparency, accountability and safety standards in flying training institutes across the country.
