New Delhi, November 9 (IANS). Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh on Sunday said that the Central Government has earned Rs 4,085.24 crore in the disposal of electronic scrap and other scrap from various central government offices under the special cleanliness drive.

Giving information, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said that the biggest benefit of this campaign was that by removing useless materials, old furniture and junk, 231.75 lakh square feet of space was freed up, which could be used for some important work.

The Minister said that interestingly, the amount of over Rs 4,085 crore earned by selling the scrap could be equal to the total budget of a mega space mission or several Chandrayaan space missions, while it is enough to build a huge mall in the space left after the removal of the scrap.

Dr Singh said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given a call for cleanliness from the ramparts of the Red Fort, which soon turned into a mass campaign. In this sequence, more than four lakh toilets were built in the very first year. Besides, a campaign was also launched to remove unnecessary files, broken furniture etc. from government offices.

He said that in 2021, on the advice of Prime Minister Modi, it was decided that cleanliness is a continuous movement, hence a dedicated special cleanliness campaign will be conducted in the month of October from Gandhi Jayanti October 2 to October 31, in which all government ministries and departments have been asked to actively participate and prepare regular reports of the work achieved.

He said that at the end of the Special Sanitation Campaign 4.0 last year, approximately Rs 3,300 crore was received. During this period, Rs 1,000 crore was given to the state. Rs 788.53 crore was added through this year’s Special Campaign 5.0, running from October 2 to October 31, 2025. As a result, the total amount earned so far is more than Rs 4,085 crore.
