Patna, February 19 (IANS). Union Minister Chirag Paswan, reacting to the controversy over the Chinese robotic dog displayed at the AI Summit, called it a ‘big negligence’. He said that after the summit is over, the government will take a decision on further action in this matter.

The controversy involving Galgotias University came to light during the India AI Impact Summit, where a robotic dog was said to be developed by the university’s ‘Centre of Excellence’. Later it became clear that this product is the Unitri GO2 model developed by the Chinese company Unitri Robotics.

Talking to journalists, Chirag Paswan said that it is completely unfair for a university to wrongly take ownership of a product by displaying it. This matter is also serious because the summit is a global platform and the whole world keeps an eye on it. Such developments can affect India’s international image.

He also mentioned the statement of the representative who had given information about the robotic dog. Chirag said that she appeared to be trying to justify the situation with her choice of words and later termed it as a misunderstanding. When such a large-scale AI conference is being held in the country, then such incidents become a matter of concern.

The central government also said in its first official response that only genuine and authentic works should be displayed on such platforms and any kind of misleading information will not be promoted.

The controversy started when communication professor Neha Singh, who was present at the university’s pavilion, claimed in an interview that the robotic dog displayed was developed by the university and named it ‘Orion’. He later called it a communication error.

The university also issued an official statement apologizing for the confusion and saying that the representative concerned did not have technical knowledge and was not allowed to talk to the media.
