New Delhi, June 18 (IANS). Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that electronics manufacturing has now reached the third largest category of goods exported from India.
The Union Minister appreciated the visionary thinking of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making electronics manufacturing a major pillar of the country’s economy.
India’s electronics manufacturing industry has now reached a record level of Rs 13 lakh crore. Initially the sector aimed to be ranked in the top 10 export categories, but has since consistently moved up to 9th, 7th, 5th, 4th and now 3rd.
Ashwini Vaishnav along with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated Jabil’s state-of-the-art and high-tech manufacturing unit at Ranjangaon, Pune.
On this occasion, the Minister said that AI has become a major force for global development and it is very important to develop the necessary infrastructure within the country.
Vaishnav said that today AI data centers have become a big engine of development across the world. Therefore, under the Prime Minister’s ‘Make in India’ scheme, it is important to ensure that the key electronic components that run these data centers are manufactured in India.
He said that till a few years ago, the idea of manufacturing and exporting electronics from India was considered difficult, but Prime Minister Modi’s clear thinking and policies have made India a reliable global manufacturing partner.
Jabil will manufacture critical electronic components required for data centers in Pune through its modern and state-of-the-art facility.
According to the official statement, the production capacity of this plant is very high and it will meet the domestic technological needs of India as well as export to various countries of the world.
This new ecosystem linking electronic components, finished electronic products and local supply chains is going to bring significant social and economic benefits to the country.
The unit is a state-of-the-art electronics manufacturing facility, specializing in creation of modern technological infrastructure.
Complex products such as AI systems, AI-based data center equipment, 5G technology, high-end networking equipment, industrial power system electronics and consumer electronics will be manufactured in this plant.
With the active support of the government, this project will generate employment opportunities for approximately 11,000 people at the local level.
It will also promote a deep localization programme, under which domestic supply chains and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) will be directly linked to the global technology ecosystem.
