New Delhi, January 17 (IANS). Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and founder of AI company XAI, has filed a major lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft. Musk has alleged that OpenAI abandoned its non-profit purpose and betrayed him by partnering with Microsoft.
Elon Musk has demanded damages ranging from $79 billion to $134 billion in this case.
Musk’s lawyer gave information about this compensation in a document filed in the court on Friday. This information comes at a time when a federal judge rejected OpenAI and Microsoft’s demand to avoid a jury trial scheduled for the end of April. This case will be held in Oakland city of California state of America.
According to documents filed in the court, Musk helped establish OpenAI in 2015 and gave an initial amount of $ 3.8 million at that time. Musk says that today OpenAI is worth around $500 billion and he should get a share of this value.
Musk’s lawyer Steven Molloy said that just as a person who makes initial investment in a startup can earn huge profits later, in the same way, Elon Musk also has the right to the ill-gotten gains made by OpenAI and Microsoft.
Elon Musk resigned from the board of OpenAI in 2018. After this, he started his own Artificial Intelligence company in the year 2023. In the year 2024, he started a legal battle against OpenAI head Sam Altman.
Musk’s allegation that Sam Altman planned to transform OpenAI from a non-profit to a profitable company is false. However, OpenAI and Microsoft have denied all the allegations of Elon Musk.
OpenAI said in its statement that Elon Musk’s lawsuit is baseless and it is just an attempt to harass the company. The company said that it is ready to prove the truth in the court.
OpenAI had already warned investors that Elon Musk would continue to make such shocking claims as the case progresses. At the same time, Microsoft has refused to comment on this entire matter.
ChatGPIT maker OpenAI announced changes to its company structure in October. Under this, Microsoft was given a 27 percent stake in the company, but the non-profit organization will still retain control.
Sam Altman called Elon Musk’s lawsuit a misuse of the legal process and said that its purpose is only to slow down the pace of a competing company.
According to the report presented in the court, OpenAI unfairly made profits ranging from $65.50 billion to $109.43 billion, while Microsoft got profits ranging from $13.30 billion to $25.06 billion.
Elon Musk has also said that he will not only compensate for the loss but will also demand additional fine.
