The global controversy over Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok is deepening. After Indonesia and Malaysia, now the Philippines government has also blocked Grok’s website. It is alleged that this AI was making obscene and objectionable pictures of people. The Philippines government has expressed special concern over content related to children. The Philippines is now preparing to negotiate with social media platform X on this issue.
Why was Grok’s website banned?
According to a Bloomberg report, the Philippines government says that Grok’s ability to create pornographic content poses a major threat. According to Renato Paraiso, head of the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center, the government wants Grok to remove features related to obscenity and especially child pornography. That is why Internet service providers have been ordered to block Grok’s website. The government believes that this step was necessary for the safety of its citizens.
Grok is still available on X, a challenge for the government
Although Grok’s website has been blocked, the AI chatbot can still be used on the social network X. Renato Paraiso said that this is the biggest challenge, because the government can only block websites. It is not currently easy to block access to Grok on the X platform. That is why the Philippines government wants to talk directly to representatives of X.
xAI and answer to
Elon Musk’s company xAI has said that it is disabling Grok’s ability to create indecent images of real people. However, X has not yet given any official response on this matter. When xAI was asked about the Philippines’ decision, the company simply responded by saying “Legacy media is lying.” This answer has further increased the controversy.
Indonesia and Malaysia have also taken strict action
Before the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia also took action against Grok. Indonesia said that this step has been taken to protect women, children and society from fake pornographic content created by AI. Malaysia has even threatened legal action against X and xAI. This clearly shows that Asian countries are rapidly increasing their monitoring of Grok and AI related content.
