New Delhi, April 27 (IANS). Despite the ongoing tension in West Asia, the supply of petrol, diesel and LPG in India is completely under control. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has clarified that every necessary step is being taken to ensure availability of fuel in the country and there is no need for citizens to make panic purchases.

The government said that despite the current situation, 100 percent supply of domestic LPG, PNG and CNG (transport) continues. In the supply of commercial LPG, priority is being given to important sectors like hospitals, educational institutions, pharma, steel, automobile and agriculture. Along with this, the supply of 5 kg small cylinders (FTL) for migrant laborers has also been doubled.

The government has taken several steps to balance supply and demand, such as increasing refinery production, increasing the gas booking interval from 21 to 25 days in cities and 45 days in rural areas. Besides, alternative fuels like kerosene and coal have also been made available to reduce the pressure on LPG.

According to the government, there has been some impact on LPG supply due to geopolitical situation, but priority is being given to domestic consumers. There has been no situation of gas shortage (dry-out) anywhere in the country. Online gas booking has increased to 99 per cent and about 93 per cent of deliveries are being done through DAC (Delivery Authentication Code) to prevent irregularities.

The supply of commercial LPG has also been increased and so far more than 1.65 lakh metric tonnes of gas has been sold in April 2026. Sales of small 5 kg cylinders have also increased rapidly and people are being informed about this through awareness camps.

The government has also taken major steps to promote natural gas (PNG). 100 percent gas supply is being ensured in domestic and transport sectors. Adequate gas is also being supplied to fertilizer and other industries.

Around 5.52 lakh new PNG connections have been activated since March 2026 and infrastructure has been created for 2.63 lakh additional connections. Apart from this, more than 6.21 lakh new consumers have been registered. Interestingly, more than 42,600 people have also surrendered their LPG connections after adopting PNG.

The government has directed states and union territories to keep an eye on the supply of petrol, diesel and LPG and take strict action against hoarding or black marketing. For this, action is being taken under the Essential Commodities Act 1955 and LPG Control Order 2000.

Control rooms and monitoring committees have been formed at the district level across the country. Daily inspections and raids are also being conducted. More than 1,800 raids were conducted recently, in which action was taken in many cases. Government oil companies have also fined 310 LPG distributors and agencies of 71 have been suspended.

The government has appealed to the common people to avoid unnecessary purchases of petrol, diesel and gas cylinders. Also, people have been advised not to pay attention to rumors and trust only official information. LPG consumers have been asked to use digital platforms for gas booking and not to crowd at gas agencies. Apart from this, the government has also motivated people to adopt alternative fuels like PNG, electric and induction cooktops and save energy.
