New Delhi, May 29 (IANS). On May 31, once again a beautiful sight i.e. ‘Full Moon’ will be seen in the sky. Everyone would like to capture a beautiful picture of the moon on their mobile this night, but there are many challenges in taking good pictures of the moon with a smartphone.
Typically, a photo of the Moon taken with a smartphone appears as a blurry white spot or ball of light. If this happens to you too, do not be disappointed at all. American space agency NASA has given some tips for mobile photography, by adopting which everyone can take beautiful pictures of the moon.
According to NASA, to take a picture of the moon, your phone must remain absolutely stable. If you don’t have a tripod, prop the phone against a wall or other stable object. After this, pay attention to the composition of the photo. Nearby objects can be used to frame the moon, give it context, or make the photo more attractive.
While photographing the moon, always turn off the flash of your phone and focus the camera directly on the moon instead of the sky. For this, tap on the screen where the moon is visible. After this reduce the brightness slightly. Instead of making the moon appear completely white and extremely bright, try to maintain its natural appearance, so that the marks and details of its surface are clearly visible. This makes the picture look more impressive and attractive.
If your phone has a photo timer feature, use it. This reduces the possibility of touching or moving the phone while taking a photo.
Choosing the right time is also very important to take the best photo. For moon photography, take your photos in the evening twilight or dawn rather than in complete darkness. At this time, there is not much difference between the light of the sky and the moon, due to which your phone’s camera will be able to capture the photo in a better way. Also, when the moon is rising above the horizon, it appears relatively larger, so good photographs can be taken at that time also.
If your phone has optical zoom, then use it only. Digital zoom actually just crops the photo, affecting its quality. In such a situation, if you want, you can focus and zoom the moon as an experiment. By clicking a photo or two, you can get an idea whether zooming will be better for you or not.
If your phone has Pro mode or Manual mode available, keep the ISO setting low to avoid noise in the photo. If possible, experiment with the shutter speed as well, so that the moonlight is properly captured in the photo. Keep the shutter speed fast initially and then adjust it as needed. Keep in mind that the slower the shutter speed, the more important it becomes for the mobile to remain stable.
If you have a telescope available, you can carefully rest your phone on its eye-piece. When set up correctly, you can capture a very clear and crisp photo of the moon.
