New Delhi, May 8 (IANS). Giant tech company Google is exploring investment opportunities in India in areas like AI infrastructure, servers and drone manufacturing. This information was given by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Friday.
Vaishnav said on social media platform ‘X’, “Google is considering the possibility of investing in various sectors in India, including AI infrastructure and manufacturing of servers and drones.”
Google’s Vice President of Public Policy Wilson L White also attended this meeting.
This news comes at a time when Google is increasing investment in its AI capabilities and data centers.
Recently, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has announced to increase the company’s total capital expenditure this year to $ 185 billion, the main reason for which is aggressive investment in AI infrastructure.
Speaking at the Google Cloud Next 2026 summit last month, Pichai said that more than half of Google’s machine learning computing resources will now be allocated to its cloud business.
Google has announced a massive investment plan of $15 billion in Andhra Pradesh to build a ‘gigawatt-scale AI ecosystem’ in Visakhapatnam.
Under this initiative, the company began work on its India AI Hub project in April in partnership with AdaniConnex and Airtel’s NeXtra.
Google described the project as its “largest-ever investment in India’s digital future”. The initiative includes India’s first gigawatt-scale AI hub, which will be spread across three data center campuses and will also have a 1 gigawatt hyperscale AI data center.
The Andhra Pradesh government has allotted approximately 600 acres of land in Thurluvada, Rambilli and Adaviram for this ambitious AI infrastructure project.
Speaking at the bhoomi pujan ceremony on April 28, Vaishnav had said that backed by strong policy initiatives and growing technological capabilities, India is well positioned to become a reliable global partner in electronics manufacturing and supply chains.
The minister urged global technology companies including Google to increase local production of servers, graphics processing units (GPUs) and semiconductor chips in India, showing the government’s efforts to strengthen domestic electronics manufacturing.
