New Delhi, December 15 (IANS). India is entering a new era of great change. The government said in a statement that the country is using its long maritime border, growing industrial strength and important geographical location not only to increase trade and connectivity, but also to protect the environment and keep in mind future needs.

Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MOPSW) has formulated ‘Maritime India Vision 2030’, which is an important step towards empowering India’s maritime sector and making it greener, cleaner and sustainable.

It said that the future of maritime transport will be based on clean fuels like green hydrogen, ammonia, biofuel and LNG. In this direction, the National Green Hydrogen Mission has been started, the aim of which is to pave the way for zero carbon emissions and make India a global leader of green hydrogen.

Also, by the year 2030, a target has been set to produce 50 lakh tonnes of green hydrogen every year, bring investment of Rs 8 lakh crore, create 6 lakh jobs and save Rs 1 lakh crore in fuel imports. For this, Kandla, Paradip and Tuticorin ports will be developed as green hydrogen hubs.

The government has also prepared ‘Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047’, under which investment of about Rs 80 lakh crore will be made in ports, coastal shipping, waterways and green shipping.

Creating green corridors, providing green hydrogen refueling facilities at major ports and promoting ships running on methanol are also part of this vision. At the same time, through more than 300 schemes, the government aims to make India the world’s largest maritime and shipbuilding power by the time it completes 100 years of independence.

India’s ports and shipping industry are being made environment friendly with schemes like ‘Green Sea Green Port Guidelines 2023’, ‘National Green Hydrogen Mission 2023’, ‘Green Tug Transition Program 2024’ and Rs 25,000 crore Maritime Development Fund. These efforts will develop clean ports, less polluting ships and modern facilities, thereby making India a strong maritime nation while protecting the environment.
