New Delhi, 27 September (IANS). Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Saturday that the era of hydrogen has started in India. In this series, the country aims to produce 5 million metric tons (MMT) green hydrogen by 2030 every year.

This reduced the price of green hydrogen from $ 3.50 per kg to $ 3 per kg, saving $ 150 billion on imports.

The Union Minister said in a post on X that government companies (PSUs) are planning to gain 1 MMT capacity by 2030 and the tender for 42 kg tonnes per year (KTPA) will increase to 170 KTPA.

Union Minister Puri insisted that India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is moving towards achieving 10 percent of the Global Hydrogen Market.

He said that Green Hydrogen Projects have already been allocated to 19 companies with about 900 KTPA capacity.

In a separate X post, the Union Minister said that India is at the center of the global energy equation as the world’s third largest energy consumer, the third largest crude oil importer and the fourth largest refiner.

Union Minister Puri said, “651.8 million metric tonnes (MMT) with rickable crude oil and 1,138.6 billion cubic meters (BCM) with rickable natural gas, the country is ready to introduce hidden energy possibilities.”

He said that the country is committed to promoting upstream activities to simplify large -scale investment, financial incentives and policy.

According to the Union Petroleum Minister, the last decade has seen adventure such as Hydrocarbon Exploration and Licensing Policy (HELP) from the new exploration licensing policy (NELP), ‘Revenue sharing’ system from ‘production sharing’ system and starting adventure reforms such as starting the ‘Revenue sharing’ system and starting the Open Acresy License Policy (OALP) round.

The OALP Round X was the largest tender round, with an area of 1.92 lakh sq km available.

The Union Minister said, “Our efforts have given excellent results. Investment of Rs 1.4 lakh crore in exploration and production (E&P) has led to a big progress. 578 wells were dug in FY 25, which is a figure of ONCG in 35 years. Also, more than 5,000 exploratory and development wells including strong offshore programs were dug.”
