Oslo, May 19 (IANS). Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a meeting with his Finnish counterpart Petteri Orpo in Oslo, Norway. New opportunities for bilateral relations were discussed.
After the meeting, PM Modi wrote on social media platform
He said, “We talked about working together in 6G, AI, education, nuclear energy and other future areas. We also talked about deepening engagement in climate change, circular economy, sustainable development and other areas.”
The leaders also announced that India and Finland will jointly host the World Circular Economy Forum in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India in September 2026, the Ministry of External Affairs said.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the two leaders stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between industry, research institutions and academia.
He stressed the important role of sustainability and digitalization in driving future economic growth and development. The Ministry of External Affairs said that the two leaders took stock of the ongoing cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, digitalization, AI, 5G/6G, quantum technology, space, sustainability, renewable energy, circular economy, innovation, education, mobility and people-to-people ties.
Both sides also welcomed the continued growth in bilateral trade in goods and services despite global challenges and reiterated their commitment to double the existing bilateral trade by 2030.
The Ministry of External Affairs further said, “Finland appreciated the important contribution of Indian professionals in the growth and innovation of the technology sector.”
The Ministry of External Affairs said that India and Finland enjoy good, friendly and warm relations, which are based on shared democratic values. Finland is an important partner of India in the European Union and the Nordic region. “Both leaders expressed happiness at the progress of the India-EU Strategic Partnership and stressed the importance of early entry into force of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement.”
