New Delhi, February 13 (IANS). An official statement said on Friday that India has made major changes in its government health services. Now the country has included Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the health system under a new strategy, which aims to overcome the shortage of doctors and provide better treatment to the people.
The government has started using AI tools in the National TB Elimination Programme, National Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Program and disease surveillance system, through which even health workers who are not specialist doctors are able to carry out tests. The benefit of this is that there has been a 27 percent reduction in serious cases of TB and more than 4,500 disease outbreak alerts have been received on time.
The statement said that this change has been further strengthened through e-Sanjeevani service. So far, more than 28.2 crore people have received advice and treatment through this online service, which helps in identifying diseases with the help of AI. Apart from this, Udyogayantra AI system is also being used to keep an eye on malnutrition.
Now this health system of India is not limited only to infectious diseases, but has spread to cancer treatment, modernization of traditional medicine like Ayurveda and National One Health Program.
India will host the first international AI summit of the Global South in New Delhi from February 16 to 20, which will be attended by leaders, policy makers, technology companies and experts from across the world.
In this summit, AI related policies, research, industry and participation of common people will be discussed.
According to the government, the lack of health services is being resolved with the help of AI. Due to this, the quality of medicines and medical equipment is improving and treatment is becoming cheaper and easier. With the help of AI, early diagnosis of disease, decision on correct treatment and treatment in remote areas are becoming possible.
In March 2024, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved ‘IndiaAI Mission’, for which a budget of Rs 10,371.92 crore has been kept. The objective of this mission is to promote the social and economic development of the country through AI.
The government said that under this mission, a scheme named ‘IndiaAI Application Development Initiative’ is also being run, the objective of which is to develop such AI technology that can solve the major problems of the country. Improved and better health services are an important outcome of this initiative.
