New Delhi, March 7 (IANS). Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday said India has protected its national interests in all trade agreements. He said that India has got the best trade deal with America, which is better than other countries.
Speaking at the ‘Raisina Dialogue 2026’ organized in the national capital, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that in the last 10 years, India has emerged as a self-confident country and India and the US have very strong relations.
He said that US President Donald Trump has always said positive things about India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Relations between India and America are very good and cooperation between the two countries is very strong.
Goyal further said that the relations between India and America are very powerful and important. He also said that India has got the best trade deal with the US compared to the countries with which it competes.
He said that there is a big responsibility on both the countries because America is the world’s largest economy of 30 trillion dollars and it has a big role in the global economy.
Goyal said India is building a large network of trade partnerships across the world, which he called ‘World Wide Web of Trade Partnership’.
Recently he had also said that if needed, India will rebalance the proposed trade agreement with America so that India’s interests can be protected.
The statement came as the US Supreme Court struck down some of the tariff hikes previously announced by the Donald Trump administration, altering trade conditions.
Goyal said that the situation regarding tariffs in America is changing, so India is keeping an eye on it and will ensure that India’s interests are fully protected.
He said that the Trump administration still has other options to increase tariffs and it is possible that tariffs may be increased to 15 percent in the coming times.
The minister said that continuous talks and dialogue are going on between India and America regarding trade.
Goyal also clarified that India has ensured protection of sensitive dairy and agriculture sectors in the proposed trade agreement. He said that despite global economic challenges, India’s exports are likely to increase this year.
