New Delhi, December 29 (IANS). India has so far added 44.51 GW of renewable energy capacity in 2025 (till November), much higher than the 24.72 GW it added in the same period last year. This information was given by the Central Government on Monday.
The central government said that the total renewable energy capacity installed in the country was 253.96 GW in November 2025, which is about 23 percent more than the 205.52 GW capacity installed in November 2024 last year.
The country added 34.98 GW of renewable energy capacity in the period under review. This figure was 20.85 GW in the same period last year.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said that the installed solar energy capacity in the country had crossed the 100 GW mark in January 2025. The installed solar energy capacity has increased to 132.85 GW by November 2025. This has registered an increase of 41 percent compared to the same period last year.
The installed solar energy capacity in the country in November 2024 was 94.17 GW.
Wind energy capacity has also increased significantly, with 5.82 GW capacity added compared to 3.2 GW during the same period last year.
The installed capacity of wind energy was to cross the 50 GW mark in March 2025. The installed capacity of wind energy has reached 53.99 GW in November 2025, an increase of more than 12.5 percent compared to 47.96 GW in November 2024.
As per Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision at COP-26, the government is working to reach 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030.
The share of non-fossil energy capacity in India was to reach 50 per cent of total installed energy capacity by June 2025, five years ahead of the 2030 target set under its National Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement.
