London/New Delhi, June 28 (IANS). Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held a meeting with the Indian community here in view of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) coming into effect from July 15 and apprised them about the benefits of this bilateral trade agreement and said that it will strengthen the partnership in trade, investment and innovation between the two countries.

Goyal also interacted with the members of ICAI UK Chapter and emphasized the important role of the CA community in strengthening the economic ties between India and UK.
The Union Minister further said that India-UK CETA will open new avenues for professionals. Therefore, all professionals should use their skills, knowledge and professional expertise to take maximum advantage of the opportunities provided by this agreement and contribute to the common progress of both the countries.
He also had important discussions with Professor Siddharth Khastagir, Head of ‘Safe Autonomy’ at Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), University of Warwick, on further strengthening collaboration between industry and academia and driving research-based innovation.
Goyal said, “A strong innovation ecosystem plays a vital role in fostering revolutionary ideas, building globally competitive industries and shaping the future of technology for India and the world.”
In a meeting with Dr. Vishwajit Rana, Group CEO, GEDU Global Education, Goyal discussed ways to further strengthen India-UK collaboration in the field of higher education, skills and innovation.
Earlier, Goyal asked Indian companies to strengthen their ties with UK companies and convert the opportunities under India-UK CETA into sustained business growth.
Addressing the ‘India-UK: Partners in Progress Business Plenary’ in London, Goyal said that this important trade agreement provides huge opportunities to promote trade, investment, technology partnership, innovation and strong supply chains between the two countries.
