New Delhi, May 28 (IANS). India’s exports of engineering goods have seen an increase of about 9 percent on an annual basis in April of the financial year 2026-27. This information was given in the industry data held on Thursday.
India has witnessed growth in exports of engineering goods at a time when logistics and production remain challenging due to tensions in West Asia.
According to EEPC India, exports of engineering goods increased by 8.78 percent year-on-year to $10.35 billion in April, which was $9.52 billion in the same period last year.
This growth was mainly due to the strong performance of key product segments including aluminum and related products which recorded a growth of 38 per cent, while copper and related products grew by 80 per cent during the month.
Exports of electrical machinery and equipment grew by 9.5 percent, while exports of two-wheelers and three-wheelers registered a growth of 36 percent. Exports of auto components and parts also increased by 7.2 percent.
Of the 34 engineering goods panels, 28 recorded export growth on an annual basis during the month of April.
Commenting on the performance of engineering goods, EEPC India Chairman Pankaj Chadha said that despite tensions in the Middle East, most sectors and regions are showing export growth.
He said that due to regional conflicts, there is pressure on exports to West Asia and North Africa (WANA) region, although exports to Oman have increased due to the recently signed India-Oman bilateral trade agreement.
According to Chadha, India has signed several free trade agreements with key partners, but industry and policymakers will need to address market access challenges to take full advantage of these agreements.
The US, UK and Germany were the major markets for India’s engineering goods in April. However, exports to UAE, Singapore and Saudi Arabia saw a decline.
Exports of engineering goods to China increased by 81.7 percent year-on-year to $301.08 million in April.
On a regional basis, North America and the European Union recorded growth of 7.1 percent and 13 percent respectively.
However, exports to ASEAN and ASEAN markets remained weak due to low demand and weakness in automobile and component shipments.
According to government estimates, the share of engineering goods in India’s total merchandise exports in April 2026 was 23.8 percent, slightly lower than 24.9 percent in the same month last year.
