New Delhi, October 20 (IANS). Refurbished smartphone sales in India are expected to grow by 5 per cent year-on-year in the first half of 2025 (January to June period), making the country the world’s second fastest growing refurbished smartphone market globally. This information was given in a report.
Global market research firm Counterpoint Research reported that Apple iPhone sales in the refurbished smartphone market have registered an increase of 19 percent in the first half and the demand for iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series smartphones is high.
The report further said that due to customers giving preference to premium smartphones, the same trend is being seen in the refurbished smartphone market and the demand for high-end models is increasing.
Africa leads the refurbished smartphone market with a growth of 6 percent. Here also iPhone is on top in sales.
Apple has grabbed the second position in India’s refurbished market, while Samsung retained the top position. Samsung’s lead was driven by continued demand for its Galaxy S22 and S23 models.
Additionally, the report states that the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S21 were among the best-selling models in India in the first half.
Southeast Asia’s pre-owned smartphone market also grew by 5 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2025, driven by its large unorganized channel and continued influx of used devices and components from China.
The report further noted that online platforms are playing a key role in driving growth in the consumer-to-consumer, especially in the refurbished smartphone market. This growth is driven by consumer confidence, improved supply chains and the convenience of initiating digital transactions.
Exchange programs run by retailers and offering extended warranties are also driving demand for new refurbished devices.
