New Delhi, May 2 (IANS). Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Saturday said he was happy to hear from fishermen that the ‘Matsya Sagarmala’ program launched with the aim of providing lighting to fishermen heading to the coast in the pitch darkness of midnight is yielding positive results.
The Minister inaugurated the ‘Matsya Sagarmala’ program at Erramukkom village in Sompeta mandal.
“In Srikakulam parliamentary constituency, along the coastal road, 1,594 solar lights have been installed with Coal India’s CSR funds. Today we formally inaugurated them,” Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said on social media platform X.
The solar lights of Matsya Sagarmala are providing safety to fishermen, promoting tourism and guiding boats during fishing.
Naidu further said, “We assured them that the coalition government will always stand with them for their upliftment.”
He further added, “Srikakulam is truly blessed with untouched beaches and natural beauty. Enjoy our signature Udhaanam Coconut Water to cool off from the heat. We invite everyone to visit and discover the hidden gems of this untouched coastal paradise.”
Meanwhile, the central government’s Sagarmala programme, launched in March 2015, is the flagship initiative of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, which aims to revolutionize India’s maritime sector.
With a 7,500 km long coastline, 14,500 km of potentially navigable waterways and a strategic location on major global trade routes, India has immense potential for port-led economic development.
Sagarmala aims to streamline logistics, reduce costs and enhance international trade competitiveness by moving away from traditional, infrastructure-dependent transport towards efficient coastal and waterway networks.
The program focuses on port modernisation, industrial development, employment generation and sustainable coastal development, maximizing economic impact while ensuring minimum infrastructure investment.
