New Delhi, 18 September (IANS). In the first five months of FY 2025-26, smartphone exports crossed Rs 1 lakh crore, which is a 55 percent increase compared to the same period last year. An official statement released on Thursday said that more than 33 crore mobile phones are being manufactured in India every year and on an average about one billion mobile phones are being used.
In the second quarter of 2025, India became a top smartphone exporter to the United States, overtaking China.
According to the official statement, “The overall picture is also bright. For example, India’s mobile phone construction sector has created more than 1.2 million employment in the last decade, which has uplifted the families and has strengthened the socio-economic fabric of India.”
India’s smartphone market is growing rapidly and consumers’ priorities are adopting 5G and moving towards premium facilities.
According to market research, the shipment of 5G smartphones increased to 82 percent in total shipments last year, which shows a 49 percent increase on an annual basis.
There is a steady increase in demand for medium-class equipment priced between Rs 10,000 to Rs 13,000, which is increasing the basis of high-demonstrations and affordable smartphones.
Meanwhile, the premium segment above Rs 25,000 also saw a tremendous increase, with a 26 percent increase on an annual basis.
This dynamics reflects India’s market optimization, which has increased premium, medium category and price segments.

The region is moving forward in the third phase, which symbolizes the value edition, self -reliance and a significant jump in the depth of ecosystem. The total production of electronics has increased from Rs 1.9 lakh crore in 2014-15 to Rs 11.3 lakh crore in 2024-25.
Mobile phones have been the biggest achievement of boom in the electronics manufacturing sector. The production of mobile phones has increased from Rs 18,000 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 5.45 lakh crore in 2024-25, which is 28 times.
