New Delhi, January 14 (IANS). Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday said the National Turmeric Board (NTB) is empowering the country’s farmers and promoting exports of Indian turmeric across the world.

On completion of one year of establishment of National Turmeric Board, the Union Minister said that this Board has made good progress towards fulfilling its objectives.

Piyush Goyal wrote on social media platform X that the objective of establishing this board is to increase the production of turmeric, empower farmers and promote the export of turmeric across the world. He said that the Board has taken several important steps to achieve these goals.

The Minister further said that he wishes success to the Board, so that it continues to help farmers, open new opportunities for traders and exporters and spread India’s prosperity to the world.

Meanwhile, turmeric exports from India recorded an increase of over 50.7 per cent to $341.54 million in FY 2024-25 as compared to $226.58 million in the previous financial year.

In the winter session of Parliament, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasad told that in the year 2024-25, more than 1.76 lakh metric tonnes of turmeric was exported from India, whereas in 2023-24 this figure was 1.62 lakh metric tonnes.

India has 66 percent share in the world turmeric market and since 2020, the top five countries importing the most turmeric from the country include Bangladesh, United Arab Emirates (UAE), America, Malaysia and Morocco.

National Turmeric Board is working to promote new products made from turmeric, spread awareness about turmeric and its products in the international market and increase their use.

The Board is also focusing on making the turmeric supply system strong and sustainable. Along with this, better infrastructure, transportation facilities and adherence to quality and safety standards are being ensured for exports.
