New Delhi, June 5 (IANS). In an important decision, senior economist Neelkanth Mishra has been appointed as the Executive Director for India in the World Bank. The Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet (ACC) has approved his appointment. He will hold this responsibility for a tenure of three years at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington DC.
Neelkanth Mishra will hold this post in place of Parameswaran Iyer. Iyer’s tenure has been extended till Mishra officially takes charge. Mishra is also currently a part-time member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM).
He will represent India on the board of the World Bank. This board monitors loan distribution, development projects, financial policies and administrative decisions. This post is considered to be one of the most important responsibilities associated with India’s economic diplomacy, discussing issues related to global development financing, infrastructure investment, poverty alleviation and economic growth.
Neelkanth Mishra is currently the Chief Economist at Axis Bank. Along with this, he is also working as Head of Global Research and Whole Time Director at Axis Capital. He is counted among India’s most respected economists and market strategists.
Before joining Axis Group in 2023, he worked at Credit Suisse for nearly two decades. There he was managing director, India strategist and co-head of the equity strategy department for the Asia-Pacific region.
Neelkanth Mishra is also the part-time chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and part-time member of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
In addition, he has advised many important committees and institutions of the Central Government. He has also been associated with the 15th and 16th Finance Commission.
Neelkanth Mishra is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur). He had secured fourth position at All India level in the IIT entrance examination.
In view of his achievements, IIT Kanpur honored him with the “Distinguished Alumnus Award” in the year 2020.
In the early part of his career, Neelkanth Mishra also worked as a Senior Technical Architect in Infosys.
Over the years he has consistently been ranked among India’s top analysts. His expertise in economic affairs, financial markets and policy analysis is widely respected both in the country and abroad.
