Cyber fraudsters have found a new way to cheat people. They are now targeting people by sending files with specific names through WhatsApp. I4C, an agency working under the Home Ministry, has told how these cyber criminals are carrying out these attacks on social media.
According to a post by ‘Cyber Dost’ (I4C), cyber criminals can access a smartphone’s entire chat history and contact list with just one WhatsApp message. They are sending such files through WhatsApp which when installed can hack the mobile device. I4C notes that these files often come with specific names and have extensions such as .exe or .dll. When installed, these files try to hack the WhatsApp web session.

The agency has advised users not to install such files if they find them on WhatsApp, because they are designed to hack WhatsApp Web. These files often appear in chats with names like “View Details,” “Invoice,” or “Document.” These can be identified by their file extension.

Once the dangerous file is installed, scammers hack your WhatsApp web session. Then they send fraudulent messages to your contacts so that they can defraud you of money. Therefore, it is very important to be cautious of such dangerous messages. If you receive any message from cyber fraudsters, take a screenshot of it, delete the message and file a formal complaint.
