Apart from just chatting, many more features have also been added to WhatsApp over time. Gradually, it is emerging as a major platform that fulfills the daily needs of people. The company has now launched a new feature in India, through which users can recharge their mobile directly inside the WhatsApp app. The biggest feature of this feature is that now you will not need to open any separate app to recharge. According to the company, this feature is gradually being rolled out for both Android and iOS users and is expected to be available to everyone in the coming weeks.
Partnership of WhatsApp and PayU
This new system of WhatsApp has been introduced in partnership with payment company PayU, so that the payment process can be made even faster and easier. With the advent of this feature, you can now easily recharge not only your mobile number but also the numbers of your family members or friends. All plans from all major telecom operators like Jio, Airtel and Vi will be visible directly on WhatsApp, so you can choose the best plan as per your needs.
₹ icon in WhatsApp
To make this feature even easier, WhatsApp has added a new ₹ icon on the app’s home screen. This icon takes you directly to the payment section. From there you can recharge, send UPI payments, and even avail services like metro ticket booking in select cities.
How to recharge your mobile through WhatsApp
If you are wondering how to recharge your mobile using WhatsApp, then the method is quite easy. First of all, you have to tap on the ₹ (Rupees) icon visible in the app.
Next, select the option “Mobile Prepaid Recharge”. Then you can enter your or someone else’s mobile number. Next, confirm your telecom operator and choose a plan from the list of available options. You can use UPI, debit card or credit card to make payment. Your recharge will be completed as soon as you confirm the payment.
Apart from recharge: ticket booking and much more
According to WhatsApp, people in India are already using this app for chatting, doing business related work and availing many other important services. Today, people in many cities use WhatsApp to book metro tickets, pay bills and even avail government services. In this background, adding mobile recharge facility on this platform is considered an important step.
Ravi Garg, Director of Business Messaging at Meta India, said that WhatsApp has become an essential part of people’s daily lives in India. Therefore, the main objective of the company is to help users get more done with ease, all in one place. This is why everyday needs like mobile recharge have now been included in the WhatsApp ecosystem.
Hemang Dattani, Chief Business Officer, PayU, says customers prefer services that are easily available on the platforms where they already spend their time. Launching the mobile recharge facility on WhatsApp is a direct result of this thinking; Its purpose is to help users complete their tasks easily without opening any other app.
What’s more, WhatsApp is slowly becoming an “all-in-one” app—a one-stop shop for everything from chatting and payments to ticket booking and now mobile recharge. Such full-featured apps are often called “Super Apps”. It will be interesting to see what other new services WhatsApp will add to its platform in the coming times.
