New Delhi, March 25 (IANS). The number of flights coming to India from the Middle East is continuously improving. Non-scheduled flights are being operated continuously from UAE and around 80 flights from different airports are expected to reach India on Wednesday. This information was given by the Foreign Ministry.

“Flight operations from Saudi Arabia and Oman to India are continuing. With Qatar’s airspace also partially open, Qatar Airways is expected to operate approximately nine non-scheduled commercial flights to India on Wednesday,” the statement said.

The airspaces of Kuwait and Bahrain are still closed. Special non-scheduled flights are being operated from Saudi Arabia by airlines like Jazeera Airways and Gulf Air, thereby facilitating the travel of Indian citizens to India.

The statement said that Indian citizens stranded in Iran are being provided assistance to come to India via Armenia and Azerbaijan. With the assistance of the Indian Embassy, 1,043 people, including 717 students and 326 Indian citizens, have evacuated from Iran.

Indian citizens stranded in Israel are being given the facility to come to India via Jordan. Given the restrictions imposed in Kuwait, Bahrain and Iraq, Indian citizens continue to have access to transit through Saudi Arabia.

Since February 28, around 4,26,000 passengers have returned to India from this region. During this period, a total of 2,149 flights including scheduled and non-scheduled flights of Indian and foreign airlines operated from the region to India.

The Ministry is also providing assistance in repatriating the mortal remains of Indian citizens. The mortal remains of an Indian national who died in Riyadh on March 18 have been brought back to India and the government is in constant touch with the family, the statement said.

The statement further said that the Indian Embassies in Oman, Iraq and UAE are in touch with the local authorities regarding the missing and deceased Indian nationals and are facilitating early repatriation of the mortal remains.
