New Delhi, May 3 (IANS). Often we ignore digestive problems. We even accept stomach ache and constipation as a part of life. We even consider problems like piles as an occasional problem. But now doctors are clearly saying that today’s lifestyle is increasing these problems more than before. That means it is not just a ‘small problem’, but can also be the result of our everyday habits.

Recently, the American Gastroenterological Association has issued some new guidelines stating that our eating and bathroom habits directly affect the digestive system. Doctors say that if the stomach is cleaned properly every day, we can avoid many digestive problems.

Fiber plays a very important role in maintaining our digestion. It softens the stool and helps it pass out easily. But the truth is that most people are not able to consume as much fiber as they should daily. Nowadays people have become more inclined towards ‘high protein diet’. In order to lose weight or stay fit, people have started eating more protein, especially meat, which has no fiber at all. The problem isn’t that protein is bad. The problem is that in this race, things containing fiber are disappearing from our plates. When such high protein foods become a staple of our diet, digestion slows down, which can lead to constipation and, in the future, increased risk of piles.

The doctor clearly says that the solution is not very difficult. Just bring balance to your plate, i.e. pulses and beans, whole grains (like oatmeal, oats), fresh fruits, green vegetables, seeds and nuts. Because all these things are rich in fiber and maintain better digestion. If these are included in the daily diet, the problem of constipation can be reduced significantly.

An interesting fact related to lifestyle is that not only food, our bathroom habits also play a big role. Nowadays, it has become a common habit to sit with the phone in the toilet. People sit there, look at social media, read messages and sometimes sit for longer than necessary. According to doctors, this habit can be harmful. Sitting on the toilet seat for a long time increases the pressure on the veins of the lower back, which increases the risk of swelling and piles. Hemorrhoids are actually swelling of the veins in the lower part of the body, which often occurs when we exert too much force during bowel movements.

Hemorrhoids are commonly associated with constipation. This may seem like a common problem, but if this problem persists for a long time or if blood is seen with the stool, then it should not be taken lightly. Many times people ignore it considering it to be just piles, but it can also be a sign of some serious disease, like colon cancer. In such cases, it is important to immediately consult a doctor.

In the end, the gist of the whole thing is that our small daily habits decide our health. This is not a complicated treatment, but a matter of awareness and regularity and the good thing is that every person can easily include it in their daily routine.
