New Delhi, December 8 (IANS). Under PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, rooftop solar systems have been installed in a total of 23,96,497 houses. This is approximately 23.96 percent of the target. This information was given to the Parliament on Monday.
The objective of this scheme is to install rooftop solar systems in one crore houses in the residential sector by the financial year 2026-27.
This is a demand based scheme, in which all the residential consumers of the country who have grid connected electricity connection of local discom can avail the benefits of the scheme by applying on the national portal of the scheme.
Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, said the scheme is progressing well and as of December 3, a total of 53,54,099 applications have been received on the national portal and 19,17,698 rooftop solar systems have been installed covering 23,96,497 houses across the country.
Under this scheme, a target has been set to cover 35 lakh houses for the financial year 2025-26 and the government has taken several steps to rapidly implement this scheme across the country.
These include the online process from registration to sending subsidy directly to the bank account of the residential consumer through the national portal. Unsecured loan from nationalized banks at a concessional interest rate of repo-rate plus 50 bps – 6% per annum, currently for 10 years; And an easier regulatory approval process by waiving the technical feasibility requirement and introducing auto load increases of up to 10 kW.
According to the Minister, Net Metering Agreement has been made a part of the application in the National Portal and the process of registration of vendors has been simplified to ensure that there are sufficient and qualified vendors.
The total expenditure of this scheme, which started on February 13, 2024, is Rs 75,021 crore, the objective of which is to provide rooftop solar system to one crore houses, which will provide up to 300 units of free electricity every month.
