Mumbai, April 21 (IANS). India has led the world in adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) for personal health. A new report said on Tuesday that 85 percent of people in India are already using AI-based tools, which is much more than developed countries.
According to a study conducted by Boston Consulting Group (BCG), (titled “Consumers are ready for AI-enabled healthcare. Health systems also need to be ready”), Indian users are adopting generative AI at a faster rate than the rest of the world.
This report is based on a survey conducted on more than 13,000 people from 15 countries, which revealed that India’s AI adoption level is much higher than America (50 percent), Britain (43 percent) and Japan (34 percent).
Around 60 percent people around the world are using AI for health related work, but India is at the forefront in this matter. This shows that people’s confidence in digital health tools is increasing rapidly in the country.
According to the report, patients are now adopting new thinking regarding the method of treatment. Most people prefer a model in which doctors and AI work together, rather than AI replacing doctors.
This method is being considered especially useful in understanding test reports and managing long-term diseases (chronic conditions).
The report also says that the young generation is pushing this change forward rapidly. About 78 percent of Generation Z and 71 percent of Millennials are using AI for health-related tasks.
At present, the use of AI in healthcare is mostly limited to chatbots and wearable devices, but people’s expectations are increasing rapidly.
“While 33 percent of people are currently using chatbots and 19 percent are using wearables, people are now expecting advanced ‘agentic AI’ that can book appointments, manage referrals and identify potential drug interactions,” the report said.
Consumers now want smart AI systems that can perform critical tasks automatically and make healthcare easier and more effective.
