New Delhi, May 27 (IANS). Air India’s San Francisco flight returned to Delhi on Wednesday morning after a technical glitch. During this period the plane was in the air for more than eight hours. This information was given by the airline.

Flight AI173 from Delhi to San Francisco, carrying around 230 passengers, returned to Delhi as per prescribed security procedures, the airline said. The flight involved a Boeing 777-300ER.

“The aircraft has landed safely and will undergo technical inspection in accordance with Air India’s safety standards,” the airline said in a statement.

According to flight tracking website flightradar24.com, this Air India flight remained in the air for more than eight hours.

During this, the plane turned back towards Delhi after being in Chinese airspace for more than three hours.

Air India expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to the passengers and said that alternative arrangements are being made to take them to their destinations as soon as possible.

Air India said, “We regret the inconvenience caused to the passengers and are making alternative arrangements to get them to their destinations as soon as possible.”

The airline further said, “Our ground teams are providing all necessary assistance to the passengers like refreshments, hotel accommodation arrangements or changing the travel time as per their wish.”

The airline has not provided details about the technical problem, and the plane will now undergo a technical inspection process.

Last week, on May 21, an engine fire broke out in an Air India flight from Bengaluru to Delhi after landing at the Delhi airport.

“During the aircraft’s final approach to Delhi, the cockpit crew received a fire signal from an engine. The signal was later confirmed to be correct. The crew followed all standard operating procedures and landed the aircraft safely at Delhi airport. All passengers and crew are safe and deboarded normally,” Air India said on May 21.
