Mumbai, April 16 (IANS). Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Chun Fong is likely to meet senior Tata Group executives at Bombay House in Mumbai on Thursday to discuss the financial and operational challenges faced by Air India.

According to sources, Go Chun Fong has reached Mumbai this morning and will hold detailed discussions on the airline’s turnaround plan with the Tata Group leadership.

It is being told that during his visit he may also meet Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran.

This meeting is taking place at a time when Air India is going through a period of major change. The company has been undergoing major reforms and expansion since its acquisition by the Tata Group from the government in January 2022.

After this, Singapore Airlines also bought 25.1 percent stake in Air India, which further strengthened the strategic partnership between the two companies in the aviation sector.

However, despite major reform plans, Air India is facing many challenges. Airspace restrictions have increased due to the ongoing geopolitical tension in West Asia, while Pakistan’s airspace has been closed to Indian aircraft for a long time.

Due to these circumstances, airlines are having to adopt longer routes for many international long-haul flights, increasing fuel consumption and increasing costs.

This has put pressure on the company’s financial performance, especially at a time when it is investing heavily to expand its fleet and improve services.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, Air India had confirmed the resignation of its CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson.

In an official statement released on April 7, the company said that a committee has been formed to search for a new CEO, who will select a successor in the coming months.

According to the company, Wilson has appointed Air India Chairman N. Chandrasekaran had expressed his desire to step down from his post in 2026 and since then he has been busy preparing the organization for this change.

The company also clarified that he will continue in his post until a new CEO is appointed.
