If you use Indian online food and grocery delivery platform Swiggy, you no longer need to open the app to order food or grocery. Now you will be able to order food with the help of AI. Swiggy has announced a major tech initiative that will allow users to place orders directly through AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude. Swiggy has announced the integration of Model Context Protocol (MCP) across all its business verticals.
Order directly through AI chatbot
With this new system of Swiggy, users will be able to order food or grocery by talking to the AI chatbot. The user simply tells what they want, and the AI will place the order through that conversation. The feature will be available on Swiggy’s food delivery platform as well as verticals like Instamart and Dineout. This means that everything from grocery shopping to restaurant booking will be possible through AI.
What is MCP and how does it work?
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is developed by AI company Anthropic. It is a system that connects AI chatbots to third-party data and service platforms. Through MCP, AI can not only access information but also take actions on behalf of the user. Swiggy has used this technology to give AI the ability to place orders and track deliveries.
Support for ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude
According to Swiggy, after the MCP integration, users will be able to use Swiggy’s services on AI platforms like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude. This means that users will be able to order food through the AI chatbot they use every day. This will eliminate the need to change apps and make the whole process easier and faster.
Delivery tracking and dineout reservation also possible
Through this AI integration, users will not only be able to place orders but will also be able to track their deliveries. Apart from this, the facility to book tables in restaurants under Swiggy Dineout will also be available through AI chatbot. The company says that user data will remain secure and AI will be given access to only necessary information. This move could make Swiggy one of the most advanced AI-driven consumer tech companies in India.
