Telangana Cabinet goes digital, tablets given to ministers

Hyderabad, June 18 (IANS). The Telangana government has decided to make the state cabinet meetings completely paperless. In this regard, Chief Minister A. The important decision was taken in the special cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Revanth Reddy.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the Chief Minister has approved the implementation of the Telangana Digital Cabinet System.

Information Technology Minister D. Sridhar Babu addressed Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti distributed special tablets to Vikramarka and all the ministers. The Chief Minister himself also inspected the operation of the digital cabinet system.

Under the new system, Cabinet meetings will now be completely paperless, which will promote efficiency, transparency and environmental protection. The agenda of the cabinet meeting and other important documents will now be made available to the ministers through these tablets.

Chief secretaries and other officials were not invited to Thursday’s meeting. It is believed that the Chief Minister and ministers discussed issues related to the implementation of various welfare schemes.

The Telangana Cabinet is adopting the paperless system almost two years after neighboring Andhra Pradesh. The Andhra Pradesh government had implemented the e-cabinet system on August 28, 2024, making the Council of Ministers meeting completely digital.

Ministers in Andhra Pradesh were provided iPads equipped with e-Cabinet application developed by National Informatics Center (NIC), New Delhi.

Even during the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government between 2014 and 2019, Andhra Pradesh Cabinet meetings were paperless. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had introduced e-Cabinet meetings in 2014, about 100 days after becoming chief minister following the bifurcation of the state.

However, later the YSR Congress Party government stopped this system of e-meetings. This time a comprehensive e-Cabinet application has been developed with many new features and complete digital workflow.

Officials say that the paperless system is environment friendly as well as increases administrative efficiency. Through the e-Cabinet application, ministers will be able to get online access to essential documents and related information anywhere and anytime.
