New Delhi, June 20 (IANS). On the occasion of completion of 23 years of NIXI i.e. National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), its Chairman and Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) S. Krishnan stressed the need to further strengthen trust, security and security in the internet ecosystem.
Launching four new digital initiatives at an event in the national capital, he said Nixi has played an important role in strengthening India’s internet infrastructure as well as increasing the country’s participation in global internet governance issues.
On this occasion, four new digital services namely IX Portal, MyIRIN Portal, DotInAuction Portal and AI-powered WHOIS Screening Platform were launched.
These initiatives aim to improve user experience, increase transparency and make operations in the country’s internet ecosystem more effective.
According to Nixi, the AI-based WHOIS screening platform will help strengthen the security of domain names and enhance its ability to identify suspicious websites.
This will help make India’s “.in” domain space more secure.
The event also honored organizations and stakeholders that have made significant contributions to strengthening India’s internet ecosystem and developing the country’s digital infrastructure.
Samiran Gupta, ICANN’s Stakeholder Engagement Vice President and Managing Director for Asia-Pacific region, stressed the need to further strengthen India’s participation in global Internet governance and standards-setting discussions.
He said initiatives like the Nixie Fellowship Program are cultivating new leaders who can make significant contributions to shaping the future of the Internet.
Nixie Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Devesh Tyagi said that the success of the next phase of Internet in India will depend on three important things – trust, innovation and ensuring participation of people from every part of the country.
He said that the development of Internet will be meaningful only when people from all regions of the country can participate in it equally.
According to the official statement, Nixi is currently managing more than 39 lakh dot-in domain names.
Additionally, the entity operates 79 Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) across the country and provides domain registration facilities in 22 Indian languages.
NIXI is also working to promote IPv6 technology in the country and currently the IPv6 adoption rate in India has reached about 78.34 percent.
