WhatsApp may soon bring two new features for its users. According to media reports, the company is testing a feature that will allow users to see whether a contact is online or not without opening the chat. Apart from this, the company is also creating a new option for Android users to better manage chat backup. The purpose of both these features is to simplify the user experience and help in storage management.

**See who is online without opening chat**

According to WABetaInfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp updates, the company is working on a new “green dot” feature. This feature is currently seen in version 2.26.24.5 of WhatsApp Beta for Android. With this feature, if a contact is online, a small green dot will appear on their profile photo, making it easier for users to know whether the other person is active on the app or not.

**Easy chat backup management**

Apart from the Green Dot feature, WhatsApp is also working on a new backup management section. With this feature, users will be able to view old backups, delete them and make copies of them when needed. One of the big benefits of this is that users will be able to save space on their devices and cloud storage; Old backups often take up a lot of storage, causing your phone’s memory to fill up quickly. The new system could help solve this problem.

**Control Backup from Android Settings**
It is being said that Google is also helping in this project. The Google Play Services v26.23 update adds a dedicated backup management section to Android system settings. This will allow users to view and manage their WhatsApp backups directly from their phone’s settings. Currently, both features are in the testing and development phase, but reports suggest that they may be released to all users in the upcoming updates. If implemented, it will be easier than ever to check online status and manage backups on WhatsApp.
