New Delhi, July 4 (IANS). Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) on Friday clarified the video going viral on social media, in which it was claimed that the use of E20 petrol in Toyota Innova High Cross caused a technical fault. The company clarified that its detailed technical investigation found that the problem with the vehicle was caused by contaminated fuel and not E20 fuel.
The company said in a statement that the Toyota Innova HiCross in question is a fully E20 fuel compatible vehicle, which has been designed, tested and certified for the use of 20 percent ethanol blended petrol.
According to Toyota, during a detailed technical examination of the vehicle, it became clear that the problem was caused by impurities in the fuel. During inspection, no damage was found to any part or fuel system of the vehicle.
The company said that its service team first thoroughly cleaned the fuel tank and fuel lines of the vehicle, after which it was filled with standard E20 petrol. After inspection the vehicle was found to be in full working order and was handed back to the customer.
The company said it is absolutely clear that the incident was not related to the use of E20 petrol but was solely caused by non-standard and contaminated fuel.
Toyota advised customers to always fill fuel at authorized and reliable petrol pumps only, to avoid adulteration or impurities in the fuel. The company also said that for any information related to vehicle performance or fuel compatibility, customers should rely only on official and scientifically proven sources and if necessary, contact an authorized Toyota dealership or the company’s customer care.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MOPNG) on Friday also termed as misleading and false the news being spread on social media claiming that E20 petrol is harmful for vehicles, increases pollution and causes excessive wastage of water for ethanol production. The ministry said such claims have no scientific basis and people should not believe in rumours.
