WiFi 7 was officially launched in 2024. Even before WiFi 7 routers become widely available, many companies have started working on WiFi 8. At CES 2026, several companies, including Asus, showed off WiFi 8 router concepts. Although it has not received official approval yet, the teaser has already created a lot of excitement. So, today we will know what is WiFi 8 and how is it different from WiFi 7.
How is WiFi 8 different from WiFi 7?
In terms of speed, WiFi 8 will be no different from its current version, WiFi 7. The speed will be the same in both, but WiFi 8 will provide better power efficiency and stronger connectivity. The demo shows that WiFi 8 will give users a faster and more stable connection, even if their device is far from the router. WiFi 8 will reduce the risk of signal drop, allowing users to do streaming, gaming and other tasks without any interruption. WiFi 7 delivers speeds up to 46Gbps with low latency and multi-link operation. Hopefully WiFi 8 will further improve these features. It is believed that WiFi 8 can be officially launched by 2028.
Which companies are working on WiFi 8?
Asus unveiled a concept Wi-Fi 8 router at CES. The company claims that it will provide the same speed as WiFi 7, but with higher throughput, which will reduce network congestion and there will be no problem of lagging even during heavy tasks. Additionally, Broadcom has also introduced WiFi 8-enabled components. These will be used in residential Wi-Fi 8 routers. MediaTek has also introduced WiFi 8 chips called Phylogic 8000. The first device with these chips can be launched this year.
