New Delhi, June 30 (IANS). Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday said that India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has now been launched in Greece, allowing eligible customers to transfer money in a quick, secure and easy way. Along with this, transaction costs will also be significantly reduced compared to traditional methods.
Piyush Goyal wrote on social media platform He said that these solutions are creating value transcending borders and strengthening global partnerships for shared growth and prosperity.
During his visit to Greece, Piyush Goyal met Eurobank Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Fokion Karavias and discussed further strengthening the India-Greece economic partnership.
“We encouraged Greek companies to invest in India and also discussed possibilities of cooperation in areas such as manufacturing and infrastructure development in Greece,” Goyal said.
The Union Minister also witnessed a live demonstration of the UPI service under the partnership of Eurobank and NIPL (NPCI International Payments Limited) at the Eurobank Headquarters in Athens. During this, Eurobank CEO Fokion Karavias and Fairfax Digital Services CEO Sanjay Tugnait were also present.
The Minister said that this is another important achievement towards the global expansion of India’s digital payments system.
Earlier, Piyush Goyal also addressed the India-Greece Business Forum along with Greece’s Deputy Foreign Minister Harry Theoharis.
During this, he also met the members of the Indian community (diaspora) participating in the program.
In his address, Piyush Goyal mentioned India’s strong economic growth, stable macroeconomic situation and continuous economic progress, saying that it offers huge investment and trade opportunities for Greece.
He also said that the India-European Union (EU) Free Trade Agreement (FTA) could open up new opportunities for trade, investment and economic cooperation.
The Union Minister stressed the immense potential for cooperation between the two countries in many important areas. He called upon Greek industrialists and investors to undertake co-manufacturing, co-investment and partnership with India.
He said that this will give new impetus to investment, trade relations and shared prosperity between the two countries.
