In this post, he tells how he overcame difficulties with hard work and the support of a guru. Abdul told that in 2013 he had left home with only Rs 1,000 in his pocket. He had bought a train ticket worth Rs 800 with that money.
time spent on the streets hungry and thirsty
Upon reaching Chennai, it was difficult to find a job and a place to live. He spent two months hungry and thirsty on the streets. Finally, the day came when Abdul got a job as a security guard in the office of Zoho company. One had to work 12 hours a day and the income was also low. But Abdul was dreaming of something else. Learning a little HTML in school got his hopes up. He did not have a degree, but his desire to learn remained.
Learning programming while working as a guard
One day, while on guard duty, Shibu Alexis, a senior Zoho employee, noticed Abdul. He asked her name and started a conversation. During the conversation, she said, “Aalim, there is something special in your eyes.” Abdul told about his education and knowledge of computers. When Shibu asked him if he wanted to learn more, Abdul agreed. For the next eight months he learned programming while working as a guard. He worked as a security guard during the day and learned programming in the evening.
After passing the interview, he got a job as a developer
With his efforts, Abdul created a simple app that shows the user’s inputs. Shibu showed it to a Zoho manager, who was very impressed. Then the manager called Abdul for an interview. Abdul was a little hesitant because he did not have a degree. But the manager said, “At Zoho, a degree is not important; skills are what matter.” Abdul passed the Zoho interview and got the developer job. Eight years later, Abdul is still a software development engineer at Zoho. She doesn’t have a college degree, but her skills have made a difference. In his LinkedIn post, Abdul thanked Shibu Alexis and Zoho for their support. She wrote, “Shibu sir gave me knowledge and Zoho gave me opportunity.” People are congratulating him.
