An Air Vice Marshal from the Air Headquarters was given the responsibility of a sudden firing of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. They have started a detailed investigation. Let us tell you that on March 9, a missile accidentally fell on the land of Pakistan.
Government sources told news agency ANI that a detailed investigation by an Air Force officer (equivalent to a Major General in the Army) is still underway. He said that prima facie an officer of the rank of Group Captain is being held guilty.
The officer was in charge of the missile system’s mobile command post. At the same time, there was an accidental firing during the Command Air Staff Inspection (CASI) at his home base. However, sources said the probe would be finalized in a time-bound manner and the final conclusion would be reached only after that.
Sources said the AVMs probing the incident are highly qualified and are in charge of operations at the Air Headquarters.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said in Parliament on March 15 that a high-level inquiry has been ordered into the incident related to the accidental launch of the missile in Pakistan. “Unfortunately on March 9, a missile was launched by mistake. The incident happened during a routine inspection. We came to know later that it had landed in Pakistan,” he had said in the Rajya Sabha.
He had also said that the Indian missile system is extremely reliable and safe. Also the Indian Armed Forces are experienced in handling such systems. Let us tell you that Pakistan is trying to raise this matter at the international level.
Let us also tell you that the missile did not cause any major damage or loss of life to any property in Pakistan’s Mian Channu city. India has also expressed regret over the incident.
