Last month, a video of Congress leader Mukarram Khan from Hyderabad went viral on social media. He made the controversial remarks regarding the hijab controversy that started in Karnataka. Khan had said, “We were born and brought up here, we are living and ending our lives here in India. Those who are opposed to wearing the hijab will be torn to pieces. One day, We (all) will die (but) will not hurt our caste (religion). All castes are equal. No caste suffers from injustice. You can wear anything. Who will stop you? We will not tolerate this.”
Days after the viral video, Congress leader Mukarram Khan allegedly made a provocative statement and said that anyone “who opposes the hijab will be cut into pieces”. The Kalaburagi district police took him into custody in Hyderabad on Tuesday and said that he would be produced before the court soon.
Significantly, an FIR was registered against Mukarram Khan at Sedam police station under sections 153 (A), 298 and 295 of the Indian Penal Code.
