Whenever the picture of any country comes to our mind, wide roads and long highways are definitely visible. Roads are considered the lifeline of any country, because through them people easily reach from one city to another. But there is a country in the world where there is no national road or highway to connect the cities. The name of this unique country is Greenland.
Most of the area is covered with snow
Greenland is famous all over the world for its extremely cold climate and huge glaciers. About 80 percent of the area here is covered with thick ice sheets. The glaciers spread all around, high mountains and deep creeks make the natural beauty of this place more special.
Due to these difficult geographical conditions, it has not been possible to build large road networks or highways here. Although some limited roads exist within small towns and cities, there is no road available to reach from one city to another.
After all, how do people travel?
Temperatures in Greenland remain below zero most of the time. Heavy snowfall and severe snow storms are common in winter. Apart from this, the population here is very less and people are settled far away. In such a situation, building and maintaining thousands of kilometers long roads is considered a very expensive and difficult task.
This is why air service is the biggest means of travel here. People use helicopters, small planes and boats to travel from one city to another. Dog sleds also become a form of transportation during winter in many areas.
