In the 1971 war, the Indian armed forces achieved a historic victory over Pakistan. In this war, 93,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered to the Indian Army. It was a victory that changed the course of India’s military history. Furthermore, this victory also changed the map of South Asia and gave birth to a new nation, Bangladesh. The entire country is celebrating this day as Victory Day. The Indian Army itself believes that Vijay Diwas is not just a date but a symbol of the historic and decisive victory of the Indian Armed Forces in the 1971 war.
The Indian Army said on the occasion that it was a victory in which Mukti Bahini and the Indian Armed Forces stood shoulder to shoulder and together marked a turning point in Bangladesh’s freedom struggle. According to the Army, this war also ended the atrocities, oppression and brutality being carried out by the Pakistani Army against an entire community. The Army says that in just 13 days, the Indian Armed Forces demonstrated extraordinary courage, strong resolve and superior military skills. As a result, 93,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered – one of the largest military surrenders in the world.
This day is a testament to India’s loyalty to its friends and a clear message to its enemies. According to the Army, then and now – when India stands for justice, victory is certain. On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, CDS General Anil Chauhan in his message said, “On this glorious and poignant occasion of Vijay Diwas, I extend my warm greetings and congratulations to all ranks of the Indian Armed Forces, ex-servicemen and their families.
