During the fierce demonstration of ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) and the Parliament march, not only there was chaos on the streets but violence also broke out, in which RAF Assistant Commandant Sonia Sehrawat, who was in charge of the security arrangements, was seriously injured. His hand was broken in this skirmish, but his bravery and the controversy that followed have made him the center of discussion across the country.
Hand broken while on duty, narrated his ordeal
Sonia Sehrawat told in a TV interview that the atmosphere deteriorated during the demonstration when some anti-social elements present in the crowd started throwing shoes, slippers and beer bottles at the soldiers. Sonia claimed that when there was a stampede, a protesting girl fell into the crowd. When she ran to save his life, she too got injured, due to which her hand got fractured. Delhi Police registered several FIRs in connection with the clash and the matter is still under investigation.
Appealed to maintain peace but…
However, he said, “We repeatedly appealed to the protesters to maintain peace, but the mob tried to break the barricades and even tried to remove the helmets of the soldiers.” Two days after the incident, an Instagram story posted from Sehrawat’s account also caught people’s attention after its screenshots went viral online and his profile was back in the news.

The story of Sonia Shehrawat is not limited to this one incident only. Sonia, who belonged to an ordinary family of Haryana, had dreamed of wearing a uniform since childhood. According to Sehrawat, joining the National Cadet Corps (NCC) proved to be a turning point in his journey as it gave him experience of discipline, leadership and military training. Later, before joining the CRPF as an Assistant Commandant, she passed the Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandant) examination of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and became an officer in the CRPF. His courage can be gauged from the fact that he received 52 stitches after a serious injury during training, yet he did not give up and completed his training. She has also served in sensitive areas like Jammu and Kashmir.
Instagram story created a new controversy
Now a controversy has arisen over a post shared by Sehrawat on Instagram. In that story, along with a photo of a dead cockroach, it was written – “Can’t fix myself and have gone to fix the country.” The post was considered derogatory towards the protesters, leading CJP to hit back, saying, “We are cockroaches, and cockroaches never die.” Although this post was deleted after heavy criticism, rumors of disciplinary action have increased within the CRPF as well. Delhi Police said that more than 118 policemen were injured during the violence and confirmed that several FIRs have been registered. The incident is still under investigation.
