Three more Indians were fired or suspended from their jobs in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for posting ‘Islamophobic’ (condemning Islam) messages on social media. According to a media report, a few days ago the Indian Ambassador present in the Gulf country had warned the expatriates against posting such inflammatory messages on social media.
Gulf News reported on Saturday (May 2) that chef Rawat Rohit, storekeeper Sachin Kinnigoli and another Indian cash handler were among half a dozen Indians against whom action was taken for posting messages on social media. It said, “It appears that the warning given by the Indian Mission has had no effect as the list of Indian expatriates making Islamophobic comments on social media continues to grow longer.”
All three have now joined the list of 10 Indians who have faced action for their social media posts. On April 20, India’s Ambassador Pawan Verma warned Indian expatriates against such behaviour. A spokesperson for Ajadia Group, which runs several restaurants in Dubai, confirmed Rohit’s suspension and said a disciplinary inquiry was underway against him. Similarly, Sharjah-based Numic Automation also said that they have suspended their storekeeper Sachin till further orders.
According to the report, the company owner said that his salary has been stopped and he has been asked not to come to work. He said that anyone found guilty of insulting any religion or having contempt for it will have to face action. Meanwhile, Dubai-based Transguard Group said it has fired one of its employees for posting several anti-Islamic messages on Facebook and referred him to the relevant authorities as per company policy. The employee had posted in the name of Vishal Thakur, but an internal investigation revealed his real identity following which action was taken.
