US President Donald Trump warned that Iran could face serious military action in the coming weeks amid the ongoing conflict in the region. He said Washington’s actions against the Islamic Republic were on the verge of ending the “dangerous threat” that Tehran poses to the United States and the world.
Addressing the nation, Trump said Iran would be dealt a “very severe blow” amid ongoing diplomatic talks between the two sides to sign an agreement to end the conflict, which has been ongoing for more than a month.
The US President said, “We are going to hit them very hard in the next two to three weeks. We will take them back to the Stone Age, where they really were. In the meantime, negotiations are going on.”
He further claimed that “regime change” has occurred following the ongoing US and Israeli military action in Tehran, but clarified that this change was not Washington’s official objective, and pointed out that the Islamic Republic has suffered significant losses in leadership due to the military action.
Trump said, “Regime change was not our goal. Regime change was not our goal. We never talked about regime change, but there has been a regime change because of the death of all their original leaders. They are all dead.”
The US President further said that military operations will continue until Washington’s objectives are achieved.
He added, “We will continue efforts until our objectives are fully achieved. Thanks to the progress we have made, I can say that we are on track to meet all of America’s objectives soon, very soon.”
Trump reiterated his warning against the Islamic regime that if no deal is reached during this period, the US would target critical energy infrastructure in Iran.
He said, “If there is no agreement in the meantime, we have our sights set on key targets. If there is no agreement, we will hit all their power generation plants hard, and possibly simultaneously.”
The US President further said, “Tonight, every American can look forward to the day when we are finally free from the threat of Iranian aggression and nuclear blackmail. Because of the steps we have taken, we are on the verge of ending Iran’s catastrophic threat to America and the world.”
This development comes in the context of continuing diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
The conflict began following joint US and Israeli military strikes on Iran on February 28, which killed Iran’s 86-year-old Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, following which Tehran retaliated by targeting Israeli and US assets in several Gulf countries, disrupting waterways and affecting international energy markets and global economic stability.
Following the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, his son Mojtaba Khamenei was appointed the new Supreme Leader of Iran by the country’s Assembly of Experts.
